The most popular mode of entry into Bhutan is by air, chosen by the majority of travelers. Paro International Airport stands as Bhutan's sole international airport, nestled amidst towering mountains at an elevation of 7300 feet above sea level.

Arriving at Bhutan's Paro International Airport is an exhilarating experience, as the descent into the Paro Valley offers a breathtaking view, bringing you closer to the mountain summits than most other flights in the world.

Within Bhutan, we have domestic airports to facilitate travel across the country. These include Gelephu Domestic Airport in southern Bhutan, Yonphulla in eastern Bhutan, and Bathpalathang Domestic Airport in central Bhutan. Travel to Bhutan is primarily served by Drukair and Bhutan Airlines, the country's two carriers, both equipped with modern Airbus A-319 and ATR planes.

Journeying through Bhutan's winding roads adorned with sharp turns is an experience that truly captivates the soul. The scenery enveloping Bhutan's roads is so breathtakingly beautiful that you may find yourself compelled to pause in the midst of your travels, simply to soak in the splendor.

Entering Bhutan by road is exclusively feasible from the Indian states of West Bengal and Assam. There are three entry points along the India-Bhutan border available for tourists: Phuentsholing, Jaigoan border, Gelephu border, and Samdrup Jongkhar, Guwahati, Assam border.

Travelers can access and depart Bhutan via Phuentsholing, a border town adjacent to Jaigoan, West Bengal. The closest Railway Station is Hasimara, while Bagdogra serves as the nearest Airport. From Bagdogra, you have a variety of destinations to choose from, including Paro, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, and Bangkok. The journey from Bagdogra to Phuentsholing takes approximately four hours by car.

Upon crossing Phuentsholing, your voyage to Thimphu, the capital city, begins, with an approximate travel time of six hours.

Alternatively, travelers can utilize Samdrup Jongkhar as an entry and exit point, located near Guwahati, Assam. Guwahati International Airport serves as the nearest airport. The journey from Guwahati to Samdrup Jongkhar spans about three hours. From here, you have a range of destinations to fly to, including Paro, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, and Bangkok. The entry route via Samdrup Jongkhar guides travelers through Trashigang, Mongar, Bumthang, Trongsa, Wangdue Phodrang, culminating in the capital city of Thimphu. Covering a distance of approximately 700 km, this journey necessitates a minimum of three days to reach Thimphu.

Gelephu serves as another gateway into Bhutan, situated in the southern region. It lies approximately 250 km from the capital city of Thimphu. The journey to Thimphu from Gelephu is characterized by its captivating diversity, traversing through sub-tropical areas and the alpine zone of Bhutan. This captivating journey spans approximately ten hours, guiding travelers through three picturesque dzongkhags (districts).
